Zelda Breath of the Wild Royal Guard Gear - Where to Find the EX Royal Guard Rumors Items in BOTW Champions' Ballad DLC
This is our guide on how to get started with the Zelda Breath of the Wild Champions' Ballad DLC pack.
There are loads of brand new gear items for you to find in The Champions' Ballad DLC pack for The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, one addition of which is the Royal Guard armor. In this Zelda Breath of the Wild Royal Guard armor guide, we'll be walking you through acquiring all of the pieces of this armor set as easily as possible.
Zelda Breath of the Wild Royal Guard Armor
To start the brand new EX Royal Guard Rumors quest, you're going to want to have updated Breath of the Wild, to install the new Champions' Ballad DLC Pack 2. Once you've done this, load up your save file, and you'll hear the voice of Zelda, telling Link that he's got some new missions to undertake. One of these is the EX Royal Guard Rumors, which you can start by heading to Riverside Stable in central Hyrule, and reading the book left there on the table.
The Super Rumor Mill EX: Volume 4 book will instruct Link to find three items scattered throughout the treacherous ruins of Hyrule Castle, which include the second floor, the Dining Hall, and the Guards' Chambers. Just below, we'll section off each item of the Royal Guard gear, directing you to each one as quickly as possible.
How to Find the Royal Guard Uniform
For the first item, the Royal Guard Uniform, you'll need to head into the Dining Hall of Hyrule Castle, although the directions for this item are slightly misleading. To reach the Dining Hall, we'd recommend approaching Hyrule Castle from the west, flying in over the moat, and climbing up until you reach a road that passes by the middle of a waterfall.
Near this, you'll find a door leading off the road to the left, which you can pass through to reach the Dining Hall. In here, you'll find four Moblins, two at either end of the hall, but you'll actually want to ignore them and take the door out of the Dining Hall straight ahead of you. You'll now find yourself in a corridor leading left and right, but what you want is a path that leads off ahead of you. Take this path all the way to the end, ignoring the path running off on the left, and you'll find a wall that you can destroy with your Bomb Rune.
All you need to do now is destroy the wall with your Bomb Rune, and you'll find a chest at the feet of a statue containing the Royal Guard Uniform item.
How to Find the Royal Guard Boots
Now you'll need to make your way to the Guards' Chambers to claim the Royal Guard Boots. From where you found the Royal Guard Uniform, head back to the corridor outside of the Dining Hall itself, and turn right, making your way down a long flight of stairs.
You'll come to a Calamity and a Moblin, so take out both of them and then turn left, passing through a door and up a set of stairs. Now you'll be at the Observation Deck, with another Calamity and another Moblin. Defeat the enemies waiting for you here, and then jump off the balcony of the Observation Deck, turning right and running past the stationary Guardian along the road. Keep running along the road, but keep an eye out for a doorway on your right, leading back into Hyrule Castle.
Inside this door, you'll find a gate that you can open with the Cyronis Rune, and follow the hallway round to the right, where you'll have to kill a green Lizalfos. Follow the hallway left again, and you'll come to an area with two Lizalfos sat around a campfire, who you'll have to kill. Inspect the chest by the campfire, and you'll find the Royal Guard Boots.
How to Find the Royal Guard Cap
For the Royal Guard Cap, the final item in the EX Royal Guard Rumors quest, you'll have to make it to the Sanctum, the highest tower of Hyrule Castle. This definitely isn't an easy destination to reach, but you'll be familiar with the location if you've already fought Calmity Ganon.
The directions for the Royal Guard Cap are highly misleading, as although the description makes it sound like the item is on the second floor of Hyrule Castle, it actually means the second floor of the Sanctum itself. When you're outside the Sanctum, you'll want to instead use one of the pillars to climb up the outside of the tower, until you eventually find yourself on a floor just above where the boss fight with Calamity Ganon begins.
This floor, which begins with an outdoor balcony area but leads inside to a floor covered with Calmity, has a single statue inside. At the feet of this relatively small statue, you'll find the chest containing the Royal Guard Cap, bringing the EX Royal Guard Rumors quest to a close.
