Xenoblade Chronicles 2 Classes Guide
Throughout the course of Xenoblade Chronicles 2, you'll have to choose what Class/role you want the Drivers in your party to take on. Drivers are characters like Rex, Nia, and Tora, and their Classes are defined by the Blades that they choose to equip. Although Rex can't unequip Pyra as a Blade, and Nia can't unequip Dromarch, every Driver in Xenoblade Chronicles 2 can still equip various Blades that can help define their role in the party.
Just below, we've listed out all the Roles that a Driver can take on, with just a single Blade equipped. Although you can unlock the ability to equip two, and later three Blades for each character in the game, we'll start with assuming you can only equip one.
Xenoblade Chronicles 2 Single Blade Classes
- Fighter - 1 Attack (ATK) Blade, boost damage dealt (+1)
- Healer - 1 Healer (HLR) Blade, HP potion effect up (+1), Lowers Arts/Specials Aggro (+1)
- Defender - 1 Tank (TNK) Blade, reduces damage taken (+1), boosts auto-attack Aggro (+1), boosts Arts/Specials Aggro (+1)
These are all the Classes that your Drivers can fit into with only one Blade equipped. For example, near the beginning of Xenoblade Chronicles 2 when Rex can only equip Pyra as his Blade, he'll immediately fill the Fighter role in the party, since Pyra is an Attack Blade.
Later on in Xenoblade Chronicles 2, you'll be able to equip two Blades to a single Driver, and this is where the Classes can become slightly more complex. We've listed out the complete options for Double Blade Classes just below, telling you the type of Blades you'll have to equip to a single Driver to have them fill a role, as well as the benefits that will come with said role.
Xenoblade Chronicles 2 Double Blade Classes
- Elite Fighter - 2 Attack Blades, boosts damage dealt (+2)
- Elite Healer - 2 Healer Blades, HP potion effect up (+2), lowers Arts/Specials Aggro (+2)
- Elite Defender - 2 Tank Blades, reduces damage taken (+2), boosts auto-attack Aggro (+2), boosts Arts/Specials Aggro (+2)
- Cavalier - 1 Attack Blade + 1 Healer Blade, boosts damage dealt (+1), HP potion effect up (+1), lowers Arts/Specials Aggro (+1)
- Warrior - 1 Attack Blade + 1 Tank Blade, reduces damage taken (+1), boosts damage dealt (+1), boosts Arts/Specials Aggro (+1)
- Knight - 1 Healer Blade + 1 Tank Blade, reduces damage taken (+1), HP potion effect up (+1)
These are all the Classes that are available to any Drivers in Xenoblade Chronicles 2 that can equip two Blades at once. When your Drivers are able to equip two Blades at once, you'll really have to start considering who you want to be your Healer on the team. Nia stands out as an obvious choice, since Dromarch is a Healer Blade and Nia can't unequip him at any point in the game.
Finally, your Drivers will be able to equip three Blades at once, which brings us to some of the most powerful Classes in the game, all of which we've outlined for you just below:
Xenoblade Chronicles 2 Triple Blade Classes
- Master Fighter - 3 Attack Blades, boosts damage dealt (+3)
- Master Healer - 3 Healer Blades, HP potion effect up (+3), lowers Arts/Specials Aggro (+3)
- Master Defender - 3 Tank Blades, reduces damage taken (+3), boosts auto-attack Aggro (+3), boosts Arts/Specials Aggro (+3)
- Wild Cavalier - 2 Attack Blades + 1 Healer Blade, boosts damage dealt (+2), HP potion effect up (+1), lowers Arts/Specials Aggro (+1)
- Wild Warrior - 2 Attack Blades + 1 Tank Blade, reduces damage taken (+1), boosts damage dealt (+3), boosts Arts/Specials Aggro (+1)
- Holy Cavalier - 2 Healer Blade + 1 Attack Blade, boosts damage dealt (+1), HP potion effect up (+2), lowers Arts/Specials Aggro (+2)
- Holy Knight - 2 Healer Blades + 1 Tank Blade, reduces damage taken (+1), HP potion effect up (+2), lowers Arts/Specials Aggro (+1)
- Royal Warrior - 2 Tank Blades + 1 Attack Blade, reduces damage taken (+2), boosts damage dealt (+1), boosts Arts/Specials Aggro (+2)
- Royal Knight - 2 Tank Blades + 1 Healer Blade, reduces damage taken (+2), HP potion effect up (+1), boosts Arts/Specials Aggro (+1)
- Jack-of-all-Trades - 1 Attack Blade + 1 Healer Blade + 1 Tank Blade, reduces damage taken (+1), boosts damage dealt (+1), HP potion effect up (+1)
These are all the complete Classes you can have your Drivers and their Blades fulfil in Xenoblade Chronicles 2. You'll basically have to decide which roles you want in your party, since you can only have a total of three Drivers in your party at any one time.
