Xenoblade Chronicles 2 Affinity Upgrades Guide

Just below, you can see the overview of Rex's Affinity upgrade chart in Xenoblade Chronicles 2. You'll note that you need Skill Points to purchase any of the Affinity upgrades for Rex or any of the additional characters, including Nia, Tora, and others. Every Blade in the game also has their own Affinity upgrade chart, but we'll get onto that further down the page.

You'll gain Skill Points for every enemy you defeat in combat, so you're basically going to have to roam the open world and take down as many enemies as possible, in order to stockpile Skill Points and purchase Affinity upgrades. Each character in Xenoblade Chronicles 2 also has their own, distinct Affinity upgrades, so for example where Tora has the Spongy Bod upgrade that increases his Health by 200 points, Nia has an Ether Talent upgrade, which increases her Ether by 20 points.

It actually matters fairly little that each character has their own unique Affinity upgrade chart, as you're going to need to purchase the majority of upgrades at the bottom of the chart, before you can advance onto the next stage of the chart, and purchase more expensive Affinity upgrades. Nevertheless, we'd recommend always purchasing the Affinity upgrades that increase your character's health and strength first of all, as you're going to be taking on some tough enemies in the early hours of the story of Xenoblade Chronicles 2.

Although you don't need to purchase every Affinity upgrade in one circle to advance onto the next one, we'd actually recommend you purchase all the cheaper ones, given that the upgrades in the outer circles are far more expensive.

Xenoblade Chronicles 2 Blade Affinity Upgrades Guide

We mentioned earlier that every Blade in Xenoblade Chronicles 2 has their own Affinity upgrade chart, and you'll need to use said Blade in combat if you want to acquire their Affinity upgrades. If you take a look at the Affinity upgrade chart for Nim just below, you'll see that you need to unlock her upgrades through performing special actions in combat.

Take for example the Fierce Healer upgrade. If you want to unlock the upgraded versions of the ability, you'll need to use the Fierce Healer ability in combat with Nim a total of ten times, in order to unlock the upgrade pictured above that lets her restore 35% of damage to the whole party whenever she lands a hit.

As long as you set your sights on a particular upgrade that you want to unlock for one particular Blade, you shouldn't have too much trouble obtaining them through combat, especially if you venture into any area with plenty of enemies, so you can keep fighting them with a particular method to unlock an Affinity upgrade.

This is all the information you need to get on with the Affinity upgrade chart, but why not continue ahead to our additional Xenoblade Chronicles 2 guides, including how to master every Driver Class, as well as how to unlock the best Blades in the game.
