Red Dead Redemption features "beyond Black" swearing, gets rated M

Stuart Black's been outsworn for the day, beaten into second place by Rockstar and Red Dead Redemption. Spoilers beyond.

According to the ESRB, the western shooter goes all out in the swearing stakes, just in case its adult nature was ever in doubt.

"Language such as 'f**k,' 'c*nt,' and 'sh*t' can be heard in the dialogue," said the US ratings body, handing down an M stamp for its troubles.

It's got drugs.

"Players roam Wild West environments and perform various missions for criminal figures and law enforcement: destroying bridges, helping individuals in distress, delivering packages of drugs (e.g., opium), capturing outlaws, and eliminating rival figures," added the board.

"Players use shotguns, pistols, and rifles to kill enemies in realistic gun battles."

And blood.

"Blood often spurts out of characters when shot; head shots and knife attacks result in much larger sprays," the description read.

"In one sequence, a bloodied and mutilated corpse can be seen hanging from the rafters of a barn."
