Ni no Kuni 2 Kingmaker Trials Guide

The Kingmaker Trials are an aspect of Ni no Kuni 2 that are introduced fairly early on in the JRPG, as Evan is forced to undergo the trials presented to him in order to fulfil his destiny as a ruler. The first Trial you’ll undergo is the Trial of Knowledge, which is basically a test of your memory. You’ll be forced to memorise the patterns of several poems, which hold the clues to the order in which you should traverse each stage of the Trial of Knowledge.

Once you find yourself on the puzzle board after stepping onto the portal, head over to the book on the stone tablet near Evan, and you’ll be presented with the first passage of the story. The first section of this puzzle is simple: you can see from the highlighted words in the text that you need to activate the Boy, then the magic wand, and finally the Fairy to complete the trial. The catch is that you can’t step on the same platform twice, so take the left-most route over to the Boy, and then take the uppermost route along the top of the board to the square that activates the wand.

Now, head down along the tiles directly next to the wand, and stand on the solid stone platform on the other side of the wand, where you can reach the platform just next to you that’ll turn the Fairy. You’ll need to turn the Fairy statue twice until it’s facing the wand, and then proceed round the right of the statue so you can activate it. To complete this first section of the Trial of Knowledge, head up the board to the book and interact with it.

The second part of the Trial of Knowledge goes in the following order: Harpist, Pistolier, Wizard, Boy, and Monster. Firstly head to the Harpist, the nearest statue to where Evan starts, and activate it. Now head up to the Pistolier, colored green and on the very left edge of the board, and activate his statue.

You can now activate the purple Wizard, who is situated directly in front of the Pistolier, before heading round the Wizard statue and to the dial that turns the red Monster statue, so that the Monster is facing directly towards the blue Boy.

Now head along the lower path, going just under the second book until you reach the dial to turn the statue of the Boy on the right side of the board, and turn him until he’s facing the Monster. To complete this section, stand on the platform in between the Boy and the Monster to activate them both, and then head down to the second book to finish the challenge.

For the third and final section of the Trial of Knowledge, the order is this: Wizard, Pistolier, Harpist, Soldier, Fairy, Dragon, Boy. Firstly head right to the Wizard, and activate his statue so he destroys his tower in front of him.

Now head to the stone pathway where can turn the dial of the Dragon, until you have a stone pathway that lets you reach the Pistolier on the left. Now head to the Pistolier, and turn the Pistolier till he’s facing towards the red tower, and activate his statue to destroy the tower. Next, head up and use the dial of the Dragon so you’ve got a new stone pathway that lets you proceed upwards and towards the Harpist and the Soldier.

There are now two stone pathways before you reach the Harpist and the Soldier, and you need to be on the stone pathway furthest away from the pair. From standing on the very left square on the stone pathway, you want to head directly up towards the statues, reaching the dial that’ll let you turn the Harpist towards the Soldier, and then heading round the pair to the right to stand on the platform that’ll activate both statues and destroy the tower.

Now continue round the path, and you’ll come to the nearest of the stone pathways, where you can head towards the Dragon, and the dial that’ll let you use the monster to form a new stone pathway.

Once you’ve used the stone pathway next to the Dragon to reach the next area of the board, you want to follow the tiles closest to the Dragon, so that you eventually reach the dial that turns the Fairy towards the tower next to it. Now activate the Fairy to destroy the tower next to it, and head across the board to the dial that’ll turn the Dragon so it’s facing towards the blue statue of the Boy.

To conclude the Trial of Knowledge, activate the Boy once the Dragon is facing him, and you can proceed to the final book at the very top of the trial, completing the Trial of Knowledge and bringing Evan one step closer to being a King.
