Like Genshin Impact? Like Elden Ring? Then you've gotta hear what Tencent may be working on
A version of Elden Ring with in-app purchases? A graceless move.
Hark there, maidenless readers. A troublesome message has made its way onto the internet. According to reports, Tencent is working on a mobile version of Elden Ring. Inspired by Genshin Impact, it will apparently feature in-app purchases.
That certainly sounds awful, and if the original reporting by Reuters is to be believed, it's a decision made in an attempt to fend off notorious Tencent rival MiHoYo.
As noted by Reuters, the decision to add in-app purchases to Elden Ring mobile would make for a puzzling twist - one that seemingly stands in firm opposition to the many merits of regular Elden Ring (as well as the rest of the From Software catalogue). As of right now, there has been no response made by Tencent to Reuters or any other outlet who has reached out to it for comment. As such, what a microtransaction-laden Elden Ring mobile game could even look like, as well as how far a departure it'd be from the source material currently remains a mystery.
There is thankfully more for Elden Ring fans to look forward to other than a handheld game sure to give you bloody fingers. The Shadow of the Erdtree DLC is still in the works. While that still doesn't have a release date as of writing, reports state that it's mighty close to making landfall in the Lands Between. While you're waiting, why not start up a new save file? Believe it or not, right now is the best time to replay Elden Ring.
My question for you is, do you think we'll actually ever see this Genshin-inspired Elden Ring mobile game? Or, do you think it'll languish and eventually be quietly cancelled? Let us know below.
