Zynga Q1 net income up, but monthly active users decline to 253 million
Zynga reported its Q1 earnings today, posting net income of $4.1 million compared to the $85.4 million loss the prior year. Still, not all is rosy in social gamesville, as sale fell 18% to $264 million.
Daily active users also decreased 21%, bringing the numbers down to 52 million compared to 64 million the prior year. Monthly active users (MAUs) also decreased from 292 million to 253 million, with monthly unique users dropping 18% from 182 million to 150 million.
Still, it wasn't all bad news: the firm said FarmVille 2 exceeded company expectations and was a "breakout hit" with nearly 40 million players every month.
The firm hoped to boost its bottom line with ZyngaPlusPoker and ZyngaPlusCasino, in the UK, and called the gambling titles the "first step toward realizing Zynga's long-term vision of bringing players the next generation of real money games on multiple platforms in regulated markets."
