Zynga COO resigns from company
Zynga chief operating officer John Schappert has resigned from his position with the social games publisher, according to Fortune.
Zynga CEO Mark Pincus has released a statement on the situation, saying, "We can confirm that John Schappert has left Zynga and its Board of Directors effective immediately.
"John has made significant contributions to the games industry throughout his career and we appreciate all that he has done for Zynga. John leaves as a friend of the company and we wish him all the best."
Schappert seems to have been in the news for all the wrong reasons as of late. After reportedly being removed from his role overseeing game operations, the COO was also accused of exploiting insider information about his former employer, EA — the same company that slapped Zynga with a lawsuit for alleged copyright infringement just last week.
All of that comes after the Facebook games giant posted losses for its last quarter, and came under fire for rumored insider trading in the midst of its financial issues.
Zynga has said that Schappert's resignation is not tied to any particular disagreement with company's policies or practices.
Fortune is also reporting that Zynga has no immediate plans to find Schappert's replacement as the new COO.
