You're running out of time to buy Hitman piecemeal if you want to get a taster before committing
Hitman: Season 1 won't be available in little bits for much longer.
Hitman isn't dead, but IO Interactive is battening down the hatches as it prepares for the future of the lauded assassination sandbox.
As part of the groundwork for moving into Season 2, the way you can purchase Hitman is changing.
At present you can buy in via a season pass or disc to get the entire season; pick up an Intro Pack with one episode; and either grab an Upgrade Pack for the Intro pack to get the full game, or cherry pick which episodes you want to buy individually.
In "approximately two weeks", though, the Intro Pack and Upgrade Pack will be removed from digital stores and will no longer be available for purchase. New players will need to buy a new package called Hitman: The Complete First Season if they want to join the fun.
That's pretty straight forward, isn't it? Things get a little bit more complicated for those of you who already own the Intro Pack and maybe a few episodes, but not the whole season. Here's the dealio, direct from Io Interactive:
- Steam
After the changes, Intro Pack owners will be able to purchase ‘The Complete First Season’ and only pay for the episodes that they do not already own. Essentially, Steam will detect which episodes you have already purchased and only charge you for the ones you do not own. Individual episodes will no longer be available for purchase. - Xbox One
After the changes, Intro Pack owners will be able to purchase ‘The Complete First Season’ at a reduced price. Essentially, the price of the ‘Intro Pack’ will be taken off the price of ‘The Complete First Season’ and you will pay the difference. Individual episodes will remain available for purchase. - PS4
After the changes, Intro Pack owners will be able to purchase ‘The Complete First Season’ at the standard price. Individual episodes will remain available for purchase.
Basically: if you've bought some of Hitman already PC and Xbox One, you can get the rest at a discount - but PS4 players will want to hurry up and get the cheaper Upgrade Pack before it disappears. Meanwhile, if you only want a few episodes and you're playing Hitman on PC, you should sort that out pronto before individual episodes are withdrawn from sale.
If anything isn't clear, Io is taking your questions on the Hitman subreddit.
Io recently detailed Hitman's June content ahead of an anticipated second season of episodes. It's all happening against the background of Square Enix dropping Io Interactive but potentially leaving Hitman to carry on without it.
Hitman was one of the most highly praised games of 2016, so we're all crossing our fingers for Io Interactive.
