Yasumi Matsuno discusses Level-5 appointment

Critically acclaimed designer Yasumi Matsuno has addressed English-speaking fans on the subject of his new position at Professor Layton developer Level-5.

"To my English-speaking followers, some personal news: as you may have heard, I have joined game developer Level-5 Inc," Matsuno confirmed on Twitter.

"I received an offer to work on a project, and when [Level-5 CEO Akihiro Hino] and I hit it off, it seemed like a natural fit for me to join.

"Unfortunately, I can’t talk details about any current projects. Apologies in advance if I can’t answer your questions... What I can say is that I don’t intend to work on anything too epic in scale for now. 'Short stories,' not 'novels,' with short dev. cycles.

"I hope to make games that aren’t targeted specifically for kids (or adults) but games that can be enjoyed by all ages.

"There will be an official announcement when we’re ready, so please wait for that, and heartfelt thanks for all your support!"

The designer has been swamped by fan interest on Twitter since news of his new job broke, and has struggled to answer English-language queries.

Matsuno was the chief creative force behind lauded RPGs Vagrant Story, Final fantasy Tactics and Tactics Ogre: Let Us Cling Together. He left Squeare Enix in 2005, citing ill-health, stepping down as director on Final Fantasy XII, which he wrote and conceptualised.
