Xperia Play games to cost £1-£10, including PSOne Classics

Sony Ericsson UK's David Hilton has said games for the Xperia PLAY, popularly known as the PlayStation Phone, will go for between £1-£10.

Hilton gave the price range in response to questions from MCV, commenting that a £10 title would be "a more complex game".

The marketing executive reiterated that 50 games will be available for purchase at launch, on top of six pre-loaded titles - FIFA 10; Crash Bandicoot; The Sims 3; Star Battalion; Bruce Lee Dragon Warriors; and Tetris.

"They are not all PSOne games, some are new titles that have been repurposed for Xperia Play," he said.

Hilton said the Xperia Play offers a unique play experience among smartphones, and could be sold through gaming retailers in the future.

"The main thing is to offer something different. ... But now the hardware allows you to play far more complex games. You don’t want to be playing these with your fingers all over the screen. You want full visibility and the ability to control the games with the sort of interfaces you have on your games console.

"We are still in commercial conversation, but I’d be surprised if we didn’t see Xperia Play in other channels. All the mobile operators and retailers are selling it. It is rare these days to get a product that is sold everywhere, but this is one of those." he concluded.

Sony Ericsson's Xperia Play will be the first PlayStation Suite certified Android phone, and releases in the UK on March 31 and Europe on April 1.
