Xbox "way more progressive and open" than PlayStation, says Raptr boss

Game statistics service and social network Raptr has found it easier to work with Microsoft than Sony.

Raptr CEO Dennis Fong told GamesIndustry that historically it's had a better time integrating with Xbox platforms than PlayStation.

"I think overall Xbox has been way more progressive and open, just in general," he said.

As an example, Fong said he'd met with many key people behind Xbox Live, and that Microsoft provides Raptr with direct data feeds.

"PlayStation on the other hand, has been very, very closed, almost to the point of ignorance, in terms of trying to control every little thing that goes through PlayStation and what their users see. So getting them to release any kind of data, user profile data and such, has been a lot like pulling teeth," he added.

Part of the problem is that Raptr has had to deal with committees of international Sony employees, slowing the negotiation process considerably, but Fong said Sony's attitude is shifting, with more power given to SCE America and Gaikai for the PS4 era - so things may be changing.

"It definitely seems more open," he concluded.
