Phil Spencer is sorry for Xbox Series X/S stock shortages

Microsoft's new Xbox consoles are out now but it's proving quite hard to get your hands on one.

The head of Xbox Phil Spencer has apologised for the lack of Xbox Series X and Series S hardware available right now.

The Microsoft exec appeared at GlitchCon to discuss the consoles' launch with streamers Negaoryx and Cupahnoodle. Spencer revealed that one of the top bits of feedback he had received was how difficult it was to actually find the new consoles.

"We need more consoles. The number one request I get over and over is, 'it's so hard to get the consoles right now and I really apologise for that," Spencer said.

"We've been building them for almost two months now and trying to get as many into the stores as we can, but the demand is just so high."

The Xbox Series X and Series S launched on November 10 around the world. Following their release, Spencer said on Twitter that it had sold more consoles on this day than any other period in the company's history. Earlier in the year, Xbox said that there had been "record-breaking demand" for its new machines at retail after pre-orders went live.

Speaking at the Jefferies Interactive Entertainment Conference recently, Microsoft CFO Tim Stuart said that there was likely going to be a shortage of supply for the Xbox Series X and Series S consoles until about April 2021.
