Xbox One S jump-starts Microsoft UK console sales by 1000%

The Xbox One S has been on the market for almost two months, and we can say it's doing quite well - at least in the United Kingdom. According to MCV, Xbox One console sales increased by an impressive 989% week-on-week, ending with a 71% share on the gaming hardware market last week.

While Microsoft claims it isn't trying to kick off a console war with this launch, it is worth noting that sales are currently stronger for the Xbox One over the PlayStation 4. While Sony's new PS4 Slim model generated increased sales, the total percentage is only 628%.

That being said, Sony was dominating console sales as this generation began, which might explain why gamers are reluctant to replace their systems with a new model. Microsoft also intended the Xbox One S to be a more significant hardware upgrade - complete with a 4K Blu-Ray disc player - motivating newcomers and fans to make the leap. Microsoft's upward trend in sales could flip once the PS4 Pro and Project Scorpio launch, leveling the playing field between publishers.
