Xbox One is finally getting 1080p capture through GameDVR, out now for Insiders
The Xbox One GameDVR feature is getting some welcome upgrades.
Xbox GameDVR automatically records game clips in the background, and you can choose to save a clip at the end of your session. However, unlike PS4, game recordings could only be captured at 720p.
Later this year, when the big UI redesign becomes available for all, the upgrade will be added. That said, members of the Xbox Insider Program (Alpha) can opt in and download it today.
Another big feature the update enables is the ability to capture directly to an external drive, which saves you the trouble of worrying about how much space your clips are taking up on the internal hard drive. Unfortunately, there doesn't seem to be a change in the frame-rate, which is still capped at 30fps.
The upcoming Xbox One X will be able to capture at 4K, 60fps, which is beyond what every other console can do.
There are also a few other fixes in this release as well as some performance optimisations. You can hit the Xbox forums for the full list of notes.
