Xbox Academy is Microsoft's latest initiative to help budding game developers

Microsoft has launched a new initiative called Xbox Academy, a free digital workshop that offers wannabe developers an insight into the game development process.

The new tutorials have been "designed to inspire the next generation of games creators, and to give them an insight into game design and development," according to Microsoft.

The workshops, which run throughout September, will be hosted by East London Arts and Music (ELAM) and Playground Games and have been put together by Microsoft in order to "inspire, serve and help upskill customers, small businesses and communities through learning and technology".

The workshops will be available digitally, and all you need to do to take part is sign up (though it should be noted that spaces are limited).

The tutorials will look into how developers can use tools and engines such as Unity to bolster their creativity and achieve their artistic vision.

"I'm thrilled that Playground Games is part of Xbox Academy and that our team members Maria Lee and Ryan Greene can share their experience and knowledge with games creators," said Gavin Raeburn, studio director of Playground Games.

"As a team, we are passionate about fostering new talent in the industry, such as with our 12-month placement scheme for university students from relevant courses. This event is another great way that we can pass on some of the expertise within the studio to inspire the next generation of game creators."

You can follow along with the sessions then export and upload any projects you create during the workshop, and community interaction and peer reviews are encouraged.

The next sessions will take place on September 12 and September 13.
