WSJ source says Verizon will announce iPhone deal on Tuesday

The Wall Street Journal is reporting Verizon mobile subscribers will soon be able to purchase an iPhone and not be forced to use AT&T as their mobile carrier.

According to WSJ's source who is "familiar with the matter", Verizon will announce the news during a press event in New York City on Tuesday, January 11.

This would mean that the approximately 93 million Verizon subscribers who wish to play loads of iPhone games but refuse to change mobile carries, will finally get their chance. It also goes without saying that this could mean an even larger saturation of iPhones on the market, and more money in Steve Job's wallet.

Analysts speaking with WSJ believe the deal with Verizon, which has been floating in rumor land for ages,  could cause up to 6 million of AT&T's subscribers to jump ship over to Verizon.

In comparison, it has been estimated that there are almost as many Android phone owners as there are iPhone, and Google claims 300K new Android activations are occurring per day.

This is a far cry from 2009, when developers like Gameloft were "cutting back" on Android offerings due to Google not properly enticing "customers to actually buy products", and because nobody was "making significant revenue" on the platform.

Amazon announced this week it plans to open its own Android App Store sometime this year.
