World's first police raid on PS3 jailbreak operation
Police in Johannesburg last week stormed an alleged piracy ring apparently responsible for jailbreaking PlayStation 3 consoles and distributing pirated games.
Egamer reports the national Commercial Crime Unit discovered and seized “various state of the art computers, circumvention software packages, jailbreak USB devices, PS3 consoles and hard drives" as well as "fake PS2 games, original PS3 games, believed to be used as masters and documentation" during the raid last Tuesday.
One suspect was arrested and held, in what has been called the "first PS3 circumvention arrest in the world". The case will be tried in the Specialized Commercial Crimes Court.
The South African Federation Against Copyright Theft had made criminal complaints against the organisation, which apparently ran out of someone's house.
