World of Warcraft: Classic is anticipating login queues exceeding 10,000 players in the Herod realm
World of Warcraft Classic is due to go live next week, but if you don't want to queue for an extremely long time, you'll want to think about switching realms.
The re-release of the original World of Warcraft, which will emulate the game's 2004 state, opened up for name reservations last week, letting players create up to three characters ahead of the game's release on August 26. There's just one problem - an awful lot of players want to be a part of the Herod realm, far more than the game can handle.
In an update on the Blizzard forums, community manager Kaivax has asked that players consider moving over to the recently opened Stalagg realm.
"There are a lot of players currently on Herod and we want Stalagg to fill up before we open any new PvP realms," the post states. "This is so that player population is spread as evenly as possible before launch, in order to provide the best play experience." As it currently stands for the Herod realm, "login queues in excess of 10,000 players are a certainty, and possibly much higher than that."
Although realms can now hold "several times more players" than they could when the game came out, Blizzard does not want to create a situation down the line by letting everyone in right away. "Our top priority in planning for WoW Classic’s launch has been ensuring that we are laying the groundwork for strong realm communities that will endure over the months and years to follow, which is why we’re cautiously opening new servers to meet demand," the post promises.
So if you're looking to revisit the mid-2000s once the game launches, consider jumping realms so that you won't have to experience some of the long waits you did back then.
