World of Warcraft: you'll soon be able to buy game time with gold

Blizzard will soon allow World of Warcraft players to exchange in-game gold for game time and vice versa.

Blizzard has announced a new system that will launch soon for World of Warcraft. The system is called WoW Token.

Using this system, players will be able to buy game time using in-game gold.

Here's how it works, players can purchase a WoW Token through the in-game Shop for real money. They can then sell this token on the in-game Auction House for gold. Any player who buys the token from the Auction House for gold, will have it bound it to their account and can redeem it for 30 days of game time.

The move offers players who usually turn to black market and third-party sellers to buy gold, an official and safe way to do so, while offering those with extra gold the ability to extend their subscription without paying for it with real money.

Players will not get to set their own gold prices for the tokens however. The price will instead be based on a formula Blizzard has developed, taking into account supply and demand for the tokens as well as region-specific economic factors.

The new system will debut with the upcoming patch in all regions, though Blizzard did not specify a date.
