Wooga becomes fourth biggest game developer on Facebook
Less than two years after entering the market, Berlin-based social game developer Wooga is standing tall in the competitive world of Facebook game development.
Figures from Facebook metric-measuring site AppData show that Wooga has passed the 20m monthly active user (MAU) mark to become the fourth ranked games developer on the social platform, and the eighth ranked all-round developer - sailing passed Disney-owned Playdom in the process.
On its website, the Bubble Island and Monster World developer said: "Wooga overtook the US developer Playdom last week. Playdom was acquired by Disney eight months ago and has more than 300 employees. wooga’s focused team of 70 employees is entirely located in our Berlin headquarters. Our comparatively small team is enthusiastic about creating a unique gaming experience."
Wooga currently sits behind Crowdstar with 27.8m MAU, EA/Playfish with 36.1m MAU and the social gaming behemoth Zynga with 268.7m MAU.
Wooga founder and CEO, Jens Begemann, is not content to rest on his laurels, though: "With our ambitious team, we aim to become number two by the end of this year,” he said.
Elsewhere, Playfish has announced the closure of three of its games due to 'unsustainable performance'.
