Wonder Boy successor is coming to PS4 and Xbox One later this year
Wonder Boy in Monster Land creator Ryuichi Nishizawa and FDG Entertainment have announced Monster Boy and the Cursed Kingdom will arrive sometime this year.
The spiritual successor to the game was originally titled Flying Hamster 2, and a Kickstarter project for 3DS, PC/Mac, PS4, Wii U, Vita and Xbox One before Game Atelier struck a publishing deal with FDG.
Thanks to Nishizawa and LAT corporation licensing, the team has been able to gain access to the library of Wonder Boy characters, assets, sounds, and music from the entire series.
The game is targeting 1080p at 60 frames per second with hi-res 2D visuals, and the music team consists of new and re-arranged tunes pulled from the franchise.
Transformation features which were present in Wonder Boy 3: The Dragon’s Trap will allow the player to turn into different animals to solve puzzles and proceed in a connected open game world. It will also maintain the "colorful, side-scrolling adventure tradition" of the previous titles.
More information on the game's development is posted on the PS Blog and there's even more information over on the official website.
Production of Monster Boy and the Cursed Kingdom should be complete by Q2 this year, after which a release date will be announced.
It's slated for a simultaneous release on Mac, PC, PS4 and Xbox One
