The Witcher 3: Where to respec abilities and get all Potions of Clearance
We show you how you can reset your skills and your build to start anew in The Witcher 3.
You can respec in The Witcher 3, resetting your numerous abilities, skills and builds to start anew with a fresh slate - but you have to work for it.
Geralt can only respec with a specific potion - the Potion of Clearance - and obtaining it will cost you a not-insignificant number of coins. There's also a limited number of these handy brews in the game, so think carefully before deciding to spend your points at random. Here's how to respec your abilities in The Witcher 3.
How do I respec in Witcher 3?
To reset your skill tree and get all your ability points back in The Witcher 3, you'll need a rare elixir called the Potion of Clearance, a single-use consumable item that resets Geralt's points when he throws one back.
Once you get a Potion of Clearance, you can find it, appropriately enough, in the potions section of your inventory, marked as a little jam jar of green liquid with a skull and crossbones on the front. Consume it as you would any drink, and now you can simply go into the character menu and assign all of those ability points accordingly.
Where to get the Potion of Clearance in The Witcher 3
These potions are rare and can only be purchased, not found in the world. The exception to this is that you are given a free Clearance Potion straight into your inventory when you start New Game+, but all others must be bought from merchants, and they always cost the same price: 1000 crowns.
Aside from the free New Game+ potion that is given to you, there are four you can buy in the main game, and four more in the Blood and Wine DLC. They belong to these characters:
How to get the Potion of Clearance in The Witcher 3's base game
- Keira Metz
- Gremist (located in Ard Skellige)
- Yolar (lives under Gedyneith)
- An unnamed merchant's shop in Gildorf, Novigrad
How to get the Potion of Clearance in The Witcher 3's Blood and Wine DLC
- The herbalist to the east of Lazare Lafargue
- The merchant in the Hauteville Perfumery
- The herbalist at Castel Ravello Estate
- The herbalist at Coronata Vineyard
While all these function identically, many of these NPCs will require you to complete quests for them before you can actually get your hands on the Potion of Clearance.
With that said, the easiest way to get your hands on a single Potion of Clearance is to find the unnamed merchant in Novigrad, for whom you need to complete no additional quests. You only need the 1000 crowns necessary to pay. We've marked the location on the below image for your convenience.
