Witcher 3 open-source modding project Wolvenkit to support Cyberpunk 2077
For a game set in a future where body modification is the norm, Cyberpunk 2077 will not support PC mods at launch. But that hasn't stopped the creators of an open-source Witcher 3 modding project from getting ready to support CD Projekt Red's new open-world RPG.
Posting on the CD Projekt Red forums, modder Traderain announced that work has begun to upgrade modding project Wolvenkit to support for Cyberpunk 2077.
"Now that we are so close to the release date of cp77, we are preparing to upgrade the community modding tools for The Witcher 3 - WolvenKit - to also support Cyberpunk," writes Traderain. "WolvenKit is a community open source project that allows for almost complete modding support for TW3, including but massively surpassing the official modding tools of the game."
It's not clear when these modding tools will be available for the PC version. But as an open-source project, they added, "We plan on supporting Cyberpunk community modding and would love to have input from the community and the CDPR staff as well," while including a link to their Discord server.
Cyberpunk 2077 is built using the CD Projekt Red's proprietary Red Engine. It's the same engine used for developing The Witcher 3, so it's perhaps not a surprise that the same modding tools can be adapted to support the sci-fi RPG. Who knows, this will probably be the best way of putting Geralt of Rivia in Night City, or other bizarre elements. Surely, however, it will take some doing to top the game's obsession with dildos.
Cyberpunk 2077 is set to launch on December 10. Reviews for the sci-fi RPG are already live, with critics broadly giving the title a warm reception. VG247's 5/5 review called it "more familiar than many predicted, with plenty of elements that aren’t perfect, but it’s dripping with detail and engaging stories."
