Wii U's streaming service TVii launches Stateside tomorrow
TVii is a free app for Nintendo's Wii U format that brings together an interactive TV guide IMDB, Wikipedia, Hulu and other services all under one banner. Nintendo has confirmed that it will launch in the US tomorrow, but will be missing some of its promised features.
For reasons currently unknown, Netflix and TiVo will not be incorporated into the TVii update when it rolls out tomorrow, and the ability to watch and manage content stored on your digital video recorder device of choice is nowhere to be seen.
Nintendo of America head Reggie Fils-Aime said in a statement, "After Dec. 20, you'll never look at your TV the same way again. Wii U owners have already experienced the transformative effect that the GamePad has on game play and social interaction. Nintendo TVii shows how the integrated second screen of the GamePad can also transform and enhance the TV viewing experience. Welcome to the new world of TVii."
Here's a trailer of TVii in action, showing off features that allow viewers to seek information about shows while they watch, keep track of sport scores or just share their viewing trends with friends:
