Wii Sports Club "may become packaged software in the future", says Iwata

Wii Sports Club may see a retail release in the future, instead of being an eShop exclusive, according to Nintendo president Satoru Iwata.

Speaking during an investor Q&A after its most-recent financial report, Iwata discusses Nintendo's philosophy beind the game's business model.

"We understand that there will be players who will play it almost every day just as they did with its predecessor, Wii Sports, while others will only play it when friends visit their home," he said. "We are now trying to increase the software's sales potential by offering two different options for the people who will play it occasionally and those who will play it frequently.

"I do not deny the possibility that Wii Sports Club may become packaged software in the future. However, for the future of Wii U, we have prioritized releasing tennis and bowling by the end of this year."

Wii Sports Club is being offered as more of a service than its predecessor, allowing individual sporting activities to be downloaded via the eShop for €9.99/£8.99 each or through a one day pass for €1.99/£1.79.

The first two offerings to be released, ad noted by Iwata above, will be Tennis and Bowling on November 7. Other sports activities such as baseball, boxing, and golf will be offered at a later date.
