What's Your Favorite Stealth Game?

COMMUNITY QUESTION | Metal Gear?!?! Or something else?

This article first appeared on USgamer, a partner publication of VG247. Some content, such as this article, has been migrated to VG247 for posterity after USgamer's closure - but it has not been edited or further vetted by the VG247 team.

Mission: Impossible Fallout is out today, and we at USgamer are excited about it. Well, Caty and Mike are excited about it mostly. Unfortunately, MoviePass seems to be dying and not letting people see it because they're broke, so who knows when Caty will stop being stubborn and just pay full ticket price to go see it.

In the meantime, in honor of the espionage action film, we're sorta-setting this week's community question around it. Or at least, around stealth games, which include spy-related things. Nadia even wrote about that bad Mission: Impossible game from Nintendo 64. So what's your favorite stealth game? Let us know in the comments!

I can't think of an entire stealth game I flipped over. I'm fairly easy-going in life, but when you make me act slowly and quietly from one end of a game through the other, I get as nervous and high-strung as a thoroughbred horse.

That said, I do enjoy the Gerudo Fortress stealth portion of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. In case you forget, Link has to move through the Gerudo stronghold to free some imprisoned carpenters, but he's not forced onto one path. Instead, he can slink from one floor to the next. Better still, he can use his bow to knock out patrolling guards from a distance. If Link's caught, he's tossed back into his cell...but he need only jump onto the windowsill of his high prison, nock an arrow, and whack the guard below to make his passage back into the fortress that much easier. I still get a kick out of sniping the guards from long distances.

I mean Hitman, obviously? Hitman is arguably one of the best games of this generation; it's the best of the series; it's a perfect murder-stealth-sandbox. What more could you ask for? Nothing. Hitman rules. There is nothing more satisfying than screwing up, having to ditch your outfit, choking out a man in a bathroom and stealing his clothes, and emerging victorious. My second badge of honor for Good Stealth Games goes to Sly Cooper because I find the pickpocketing in those games really satisfying for some reason. Also creeping along rooftops and telephone wires.

Also while I have your attention: f**k those stealth missions in Gravity Rush 2. I love that game, but man, those missions suck. Same with that part of the Destiny 2 Leviathan raid where you have to sneak past those monster-dogs. The. Worst.
