What's the Best Horror Game Villain?

COMMUNITY QUESTION | Halloween is approaching, let's talk about our favorite villains of horror games.

With so many horror games in the world, there have been some great villains over the years. And I'm talkin' big villains, not just enemies you see from time to time.

Last week, we asked you what your favorite zombie was across video games. This week, we're asking something a bit bigger: What's your favorite villain from a horror game? You can find some of our answers below, but be sure to let us know what yours are in the comments!

Albert Wesker is the perfect horror game villain. Initially cast as a friend, he is unmasked as a double agent and seemingly killed. But like Jason, Michael Myers, and Freddy, he eventually returns to torment a new group of protagonists. With his trenchcoat and omnipresent sunglasses hiding red, reptilian eyes, Wesker is the overarching antagonist through much of the series, coming agonizingly close to enacting his plan to mutate the entire human race before eventually perishing in a volcano (yep). Wesker may be gone, but he remains the (mostly) human face behind the hordes of zombies in Resident Evil, and an iconic horror game villain.

If someone tells you the scariest monster in Silent Hill is Pyramid Head, that's probably because they haven't bothered playing Silent Hill 4 and seeing the Twin Victim. [Editor's Note from Caty: Yes, I have not played Silent Hill 4.] You know what's worse than a scary baby? Two scary baby heads sharing a gargantuan body that tumbles towards you using its hands. Honestly, the creature design team working on Silent Hill 4 just dug really deep because that entry has probably the most terrifying roster in the entire series.

Runner-up: Lisa from P.T.

The first time you "meet" Sae Kurosawa in Fatal Frame 2: Crimson Butterfly is horrifying. She's dressed in a bloodied kimono, and gives a chilling cackle. Shortly afterwards, she sends a ghost at you. It sucks! She's a great antagonist in general, and I won't spoil the plot for those who haven't played Fatal Frame 2 (the best of the series, especially its original PS2 version). This scene is still pretty haunting to this day, and it's so scary that it's even used as the cover for the PAL version—it doesn't get more iconic than that. Otherwise, obviously Pyramid Head is great too; and by great I mean horrible. The dude's not only scary, but he sexually assaults Mannequins too. A true monster all around!
