What New (or Old) Game Are You Playing This Weekend?

COMMUNITY QUESTION | Dragon Ball FighterZ, Monster Hunter: World, Celeste, and lots, lots more. There's too much to choose from this week.

After weeks of arguably nothing in 2018, this week felt exhausting.

It's been a busy week for game releases with Dragon Ball FighterZ, Monster Hunter: World, Celeste, Iconoclasts, O.K. K.O. Let's Play Heroes, Lost Sphere, Assassin's Creed Origins' first major DLC, The Red Strings Club, and probably more that we're missing too. What game (or games) did you pick up and plan to play through the weekend?

Mike Williams, Reviews Editor

I don't think I'm picking up anything this weekend. Right now, I'm working my way through Sea of Thieves, Dragon Ball FighterZ is out in the wild, and I have an additional review title that just came in, so I'm actually not going to have much time to play anything else this weekend. Why buy something I can't play?

That said, there are a number of titles that I've been meaning to repurchase on Nintendo Switch. That list has slowly grown to include Azure Striker Gunvolt, Steamworld Heist, Darkest Dungeon, and Enter the Gungeon. I probably should also pick up Celeste, since Caty has been raving about it. Even though I review a number of games, the backlog continues to grow.

I finally got Monster Hunter: World downloaded, so there's that! I made my avatar dude, I made my Palico (a black kitty named Night Fury). I'm set. Hopefully you'll read some impressions from me in the coming week(s).

But I'm going to need a come-down game, so I plan to download Celeste. If nothing else, I have to support a game whose text defaults to the British-American mutant-child that is Canadian English. Please support our bizarre dialect that's utilized exclusively in a country of 36 million people (many of whom actually speak and write in French).

Like almost everyone I know, I'll be spending this weekend playing Monster Hunter: World. Or I would be if I had a TV. I recently moved and decided to ditch my old monitor without finding a replacement. I haven't really had a need to play my PS4 since after the holidays so I kept procrastinating. Now, because of my hubris, I am without a screen to play Monster Hunter on.

I have even started considering using my PSVR headset as a temporary fix. Did you know you can use a PSVR headset without a TV? Desperate times, I suppose.

I spent last weekend playing Celeste (and I'm still playing it; I must collect those strawberries). This weekend, I'm torn on what to get. Dragon Ball FighterZ looks like it's in my wheelhouse, but I'm also easily overwhelmed by fighting games (the only one I've really clung to is Skullgirls). Monster Hunter: World, despite sounding super pleasant as a co-op experience, still looks like something I won't really enjoy the loop of. So honestly, I think the game I'll be picking up is Iconoclasts, the long-in development action-platformer that released this week. It's a good week for platformers, I guess.
