We Dare facing classification review

The Australian Classification Board is rethinking its rating of controversial Ubisoft game We Dare after home affairs minister Brendan O'Connor lodged a request for review.

"I asked the Classification Board to review We Dare following media reports that the game's PG rating may be inappropriate," the minister told Gamespot.

"I believe that this game is unsuitable for children and I look forward to the outcome of the Classification Board's review of its PG rating. I share the concern of many parents that children may be inadvertently playing games that are more suited to adult gamers."

The Board will mee on June 17 to review the game's rating.

Ubisoft submitted the game for classification with the recommendation that it be awarded an M15+ rating, but the BOard ruled the content wasn't salacious enough.

"The Board is of the opinion the game warrants a PG classification with consumer advice of mild sexual references," the initial ruling stated, noting the stylised cartoon graphics.

Ubisoft wasn't convinced following public outrage overseas which saw a UK media field day and failure to release in the US. The game shipped with a sticker warning it was intended for mature audiences.

Unlike Dead or Alive Dimensions, which was banned from retail pending a resubmission, We Dare has not had its classification revoked, and is still listed as PG.
