Watch Dogs movie announced via partnership with Sony, new game trailer shown

Watch Dogs is receiving a movie adaptation in partnership with Sony Pictures and New Regency.

Ubisoft's Yves Guillemot announced the flick during Sony's gamescom press event.

This time last year, Ubisoft has snapped up a number of domain names related to Watch Dogs and the word “movie”. Now we know why.

“Since both Sony and Ubisoft have movie and video game branches, this deal creates exceptional opportunities for us to merge the realms of the story-based cinematic experience with the interaction of the video game,” said Jean-Julien Baronnet, chief executive officer, Ubisoft Motion Pictures.

“In addition, Sony Pictures and New Regency have deep production expertise and are letting us maintain a strong creative voice in the film’s development. Together, we’re confident we can deliver a movie that builds upon the excitement that the game is already generating.”

The project will be overseen at Ubisoft by Ubisoft Motion Pictures. At Columbia, Hannah Minghella, president of production for Columbia Pictures, and Sam Dickerman will oversee development while Alexandra Milchan and Andrew Calof will work on the forthcoming film for New Regency.

A new game trailer showed a terrorist video decrying Aidan Pearce's hacking as proof that Chicago's CTOS network security is flawed and that calling him out as a menace. It sounds like the terrorist cell could be the actual enemy rather than siding with Pearce. It's below.

PS4 and PS3 is getting an exclusive Hacking Boost, Deadsec DLC outfit, and four exclusive mission at launch.

Watch Dogs is out on PC, PS3, Wii U and Xbox 360 in North America on November 19, and across Europe on November 22. It’ll also hit PS4 at launch and Xbox One in due course.
