Watch a blatant PUBG hacker demonstrate their powers on stream
PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds has a bit of a hacking problem.
If you follow PUBG at all, you'll no doubt have seen near constant mentions of hackers on message boards and in many discord servers, particularly for those who frequent third-person mode. This is all on PC, of course, and it seems to affect all regions.
Hacks in PUBG go beyond the typical aimbot and wall hacks we've seen in other shooters for years. Because of how PUBG's netcode works, much of the player information is handled by the client, which means things like player movement, speed, and position can be manipulated.
Many hackers often alternate between playing with the cheats on and off, as a way of avoiding detection. Sometimes, though, they just turn on the most blatant of these hacks and proceed to kill everyone.
During a recent PUBG livestream, IGN ran into one hacker who just didn't care. Using an S12K shotgun, with a 4x ACOG scope, the hacker proceeded to shoot several players through walls with uncanny accuracy. The streamers don't notice it at first, until they get shot through a wall.
Thanks to the killcam (and the replay), you can clearly see the player is definitely not on the level. The killstreak starts as soon as the downed player enters the building. Watch the killfeed to see the damage being done by the hacker.
Developer PUBG Corp recently said that fighting cheats is an ongoing process. Though the game does support BattleEye - and the service has so far banned 1.5 million hackers, many of the popular cheats remain undetected. It's a much bigger problem in China, which is where many believe cheats are coming from.
PUBG publisher in China, Tencent, recently aided in the arrest of 120 cheat makers.
