Warcraft hasn't done well in the USA at all, but huge overseas ticket sales have cemented its success.
Warcraft is now the highest grossing videogame film adaptation ever
At the US box office, Warcraft just suffered one of the largest second weekend drops ever for a film showing on over 3000 screens, dropping 70% from $24,166,110 to $7,241,430 million, as reported by Box Office Mojo (which is still, at least, better than Doom did in its second weekend). It's currently the 17th highest grossing videogame adaptation in the country, but will likely rise into the top ten in the coming weeks.
Internationally though, Warcraft has usurped Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time to become the highest grossing videogame adaptation ever, with $378,412,014 and an 89.4% international share - almost unheard of for a fantasy film produced in Hollywood. The film's budget was $160 million.
Although Warcraft has done decently in several international markets, the real reason for these numbers is the film's success in China. The importance of the Chinese marker has grown dramatically over the last few years: Iron Man 3 had additional scenes filmed for the Chinese market, and Terminator: Genysis was only considered a success last year after a huge Chinese opening.
China's dominance also meant that Furious 7 made more money outside of the US than box office record-breaker Star Wars: The Force Awakens (Star Wars is not as popular in China as it is in most other parts of the world).
Warcraft is currently the sixth highest grossing film of the year in China. Director Duncan Jones has tweeted his interest in making a sequel:
Warcraft is currently screening worldwide.
