Vita to feature less "intrusive" firmware upgrades
We just can't get enough of the PlayStation Vita, and it's still several months away from release. Aside from a couple of notable exceptions, every detail seems to make us want the handheld even more. Now, Sony has spoken up, admitting that there were some problems in the PS3 networking side of things, and promising that it'll do better with Vita.
Shuhei Yoshida is president of worldwide studios at Sony Computer Entertainment, and he recently had a lengthy chat with Game Informer, covering Vita (of course), but also touching on lessons learned from the PS3 and PSP, and just how he feels about certain things that Nintendo has done recently.
The whole lot is worth reading, but it's particularly interesting to see Yoshida's opinions on firmware updates.
"...it’s very annoying when you only have one hour in your busy life to play a game, and when you have to spend 30 minutes out of that one hour to update the hardware," he says, taking issue with the "intrusiveness" of the current processes.
"I cannot talk about specific plans, but we are very aware of the issues, and we’d like to address those issues on PS Vita going forward."
While pretty much anything would be better than the clunky firmware updates required by both the PS3 and PSP, it'll be interesting to see where Sony takes this. Meanwhile, isn't it refreshing when a company can admit it was at fault?
