Vita Indie Games category live on PlayStation Store
Sony has publicly declared its love for independent developers yet again by launching a dedicated indie games category for Vita on the PlayStation Store.
As noted on the PlayStation Blog, an indie channel for PlayStation 3 games went live last month, but has only just extended its reach to the handheld.
Sony hopes the new category will help users discover new games, and offered a trailer showing of current and near-future titles coming to the portable console.
There are 53 games already available including Limbo, Guacamelee, Sound Shapes, Machinarium and Thomas Was Alone.
Hotline Miami made its debut today and is the headliner, but upcoming stars include Spelunky, Terraria, Flower, Luftrausers, Hohokum and Counter-Spy. Sony currently acknowledges more than 50 upcoming indie titles for Vita.
"At PlayStation, we’re proud to support indie development, and our unrestrictive policies make it easier than ever for developers to launch games on PS Vita," SCEA's Don Mesa said.
"We recognize that the unique perspective that indie developers deliver contributes to the success and future of the gaming industry. And we’ve learned as much from working with talented indie developers over the last several years as (we hope) they have learned from us."
