UPDATE: Virtuix Omni VR treadmill pre-orders will start shipping this summer at $499

Virtuix is poised to ship its Omni VR treadmill from summer for the cool price of $499. The fee doesn't include the necessary Oculus Rift headset or PC controller you need to make it work as intended.

UPDATE: We've received a comment from Virtuix to clarify that shipments will be staggered based on when customers made their order. If you were to order now for example, you'd get your device in September.

"To clarify certain Twitter exchanges that have caused confusion regarding the availability of the Virtuix Omni, the Omni has been available for pre-order since August 2013, immediately following our successful Kickstarter campaign," a rep told us. "To date Virtuix has received over 3,000 pre-orders. Virtuix is staggering shipments of the Omni based on when customer orders are placed, so our Kickstarter backers will be the first to receive their units this summer.

"We automatically adjust the shipping timeline for new pre-orders on our website. If you were to place an order today, we estimate it would arrive in September of this year. We apologize for any confusion and are excited to bring the Omni to market later this summer."

The Kickstarter-funded device offers multi-directional movement coupled with VR support, and comes with a back harness, a pair of shoes, tracking software and a mini-game demo. You can check out the Omni VR product page for more details, but beware the cost doesn't include shipping.

We posted a video of the device in action last year, and Eurogamer has a ton of clips of it running at its last expo.

May as well buy two.
