Video game voice actors vote in favour of strike

An overwhelming majority of the voice actors union members of SAG-AFTRA have voted to authorise a strike as a final mean of negotiation tactics.

Following on from last week's calls for a strike from a number of prominent voice actors, the actors union SAG-AFTRA has today voted in favour of authorising a strike.

96.52 percent of board members voted in favour. The union needed at least 75 percent of member votes to go ahead.

This does not mean voice actors will go on strike now. Rather, it's a way of showing game publishers a united front that's effectively capable of going on a strike. The union's Negotiating Committee will now attempt another round of negotiations with publishers, in the hopes that an agreement can be reached.

The agreement voice actors were working with (called The Interactive Media Agreement) expired back in December of last year. Since then, the union attempted two rounds of negotiations in February and June, both failing to produce new agreeable terms.
