Valve working on free-to-play games
Now that Steam has opened its doors to the freemium world, Valve has apparently admitted it has its own free-to-play games inbound.
Asked by Barre De Vie if Valve was working on its own free-to-play titles, Doug Lombardi said simply "Yes."
"In some areas of the world, free-to-play games are already paying more than traditional games," he said, via auto translator.
"This trend continues for some time and we believe it will continue. There are other free-to-play Steam [games] coming in with the use of micro-transactions."
Steam added free-to-play games to its catalogue last week, launching five initial titles: Spiral Knights, Forsaken Worlds, Champions Online: Free for All, Global Agenda: Free Agent, and Alliance of Valiant Arms.
The Steam versions of these games will feature exclusive content, and although Steam is holding the details confidential, a percentage of each micro-transaction is said to feed back to Valve.
