Valve changes how gifts work in this year's Team Fortress 2 Halloween update

Valve is making some changes to counter hackers and people who just idle for gifts in the upcoming yearly Halloween update for Team Fortress 2.

Each year, Team Fortress 2 gets a Halloween update. The update mainly adds some flair to the maps, things like Halloween-themed sounds and visuals. The part that everyone playing the game awaits the most however, is gift drops.

The gifting system always worked a certain way; you get random gift drops just by playing. Naturally, this ws exploited by people either just logging in and idling in servers, or worse: using plugins that teleport them from one spawn location to another to maximise profits.

Valve believes this isn't fun for anybody, and have outlined the changes coming with year's update in a blog post.

This year, every player will be getting one guaranteed gift bundle just for logging in during the event. Players can then earn a secondary bundle by completing some Halloween-specific achievements.
