Valkyria Chronicles 4: a bug from the first game's development inspired a class in this game
A glitch that the developers encountered towards the end of Valkyria Chronicles' development was the inspiration for Valkyria Chronicles 4's new 'Grenadier' class.
Valkyria Chronicles 4 is the series' return to home consoles, after 2 and 3 were released for PSP (we'll try to forget Valkyria Revolution).
One of the new classes in the game, the Grenadier, is able to fire grenades over a long distance, hitting enemies from afar. Talking to IGN about this new class at E3, producer Kei Mikami said that they got the idea from a bug in the original game.
Towards the end of that game's development, a bug was causing tanks to fire grenades instead of shells. While the team fixed this bug, they found that playing with tanks that fired grenades was actually pretty fun, and seemed like a good fit for the game.
While it was too late to implement the idea, it was filed away for later - and had to wait until 4, since the PSP games were on a smaller scale.
While it took over ten years to revisit the idea, it sounds like fun.
The game, which was announced back in November, is coming to PS4, Xbox One, PC, and Switch. The game was playable at E3 2018.
The game released on PS4 in Japan back in March, but we don't have a western release date yet.
