Vader Immortal, a Star Wars VR series, has a Ninja Theory connection
Vader Immortal is a three-part Star Wars VR series designed with the newly-revealed Oculus Quest.
It's not entirely clear how successful VR experiences can be at a financial level. Yet one thing is clear - we'll see some wonderful projects on the journey to finding out. The latest example is Vader Immortal, a newly-announced series from Oculus Studios and Lucasfilm.
Vader Immortal, as revealed on the official Star Wars website, is a three-part VR series exclusive for the Oculus Quest. It will be a canonical story written and produced by David S. Goyer, set between the events of Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope.
It's hard to tell how much of Vader Immortal is a game, and how much is a VR movie - although we do get a brief glimpse of what looks like an interactive lightsaber battle. Most crucially, director of immersive content ILMxLAB Mohen Leo name-drops Ninja Theory as a consultant on the project. Considering the gaming studio's pedigree, that might raise your expectations a touch.
Unlike the Rift, which requires PC hardware, the Oculus Quest is a standalone wireless VR headset. It will cost $399 US, and launches in 2019 - the same year Vader Immortal arrives.
