USgamer's RPG Podcast Reviews Final Fantasy XV

AXE OF THE BLOOD GOD: Oh my god, it's finally here.

This article first appeared on USgamer, a partner publication of VG247. Some content, such as this article, has been migrated to VG247 for posterity after USgamer's closure - but it has not been edited or further vetted by the VG247 team.

Axe of the Blood God is our weekly RPG podcast hosted by Kat Bailey. You can find the previous episodes here.

In this week's episode of Axe of the Blood God (download link here), we review Final Fantasy XV! It feels weird just writing that. And with the Last Guardian just around the corner, it feels like the apocalypse is almost here.

For this review, I invited Polygon's Phil Kollar (read his review here) and freelancer Miguel Concepcion (read his review here) to discuss their thoughts. Does the combat work? How about the open-world? Does the shift to linearity in the back half ruin the game? We discuss all of these questions and more! Don't worry, Nadia will get her chance to talk about Final Fantasy XV soon. And rest assured that this episode will have no spoilers.

Polygon's Phil Kollar and long-time JRPG enthusiastic Miguel Concepcion join Kat to go in-depth on Final Fantasy XV. Does the open-world world? Is that combat actually better than it seems? And what music did they listen to while cruising around in the Regalia? (Spoiler: Kat liked Final Fantasy IX). It's been a long-time coming, but it's time to finally dig in to the game we never thought would come out. End times, my friends. End times.

Music from Axe of the Blood God is courtesy of Lena Chappelle, who has also contributed the themes to Active Time Babble and Roleplayers' Realm. I also use music from the RPG Music Pack over at rpgmaker.net. Check it out!
