In this week's episode of Axe of the Blood God (download link here), Nadia and I discuss Trails of Cold Steel, after which I dive into World of WarCraft: Legion with Mike and Jaz. And I get to enthuse about Valkyrie Profile, too!
So you're probably wondering why I haven't gotten around to writing about Trails of Cold Steel 2 yet. The truth is that I've had a pretty hard time getting into it, for reasons that I outline in the episode. Like the first episode, it is once again the slowest of burns, and I've also had to split my time with other games. Ultimately, I think it's a mid-tier series along the lines of the RPGs that used to dominate the PlayStation 2 - something that is actually quite welcome in this day and age. But it would be disingenous for me to say that I've fallen head over heels for the series, and I unfortunately don't have the 60 - 70 hours needed to write a proper review. So, sorry about that.
Thankfully, I get to be more positive in the second segment as I continue my "Underrated RPG Pitches" series with Valkyrie Profile - truly one of the games of my heart. There's just so much to love about this game, from its art to its music to the way that it subverts the grinding linearity of other RPGs. It really is a treasure. I only wish that it were easier to find. You hear me, Sony? Make a deal and get this game on PSN!
