USgamer Community Question: What About E3 are you Most Looking Forward To?

It's gaming's busiest time of the year! What are you hoping to see come out of E3?

This article first appeared on USgamer, a partner publication of VG247. Some content, such as this article, has been migrated to VG247 for posterity after USgamer's closure - but it has not been edited or further vetted by the VG247 team.

E3 is the biggest event on the video games calendar. It's where the industry comes together to showcase its latest games and hardware: a ton of new games, and plenty of surprises are pretty much guaranteed. With that in mind, what are you hoping will come out of E3? Are there games you want to hear about, or is there something more general you're looking forward to? We're interested to know what itt is you're hoping E3 will bring this year.

While you think about that, here's the USgamer team on what they're most looking forward to seeing at E3 this year.

I already wrote about what I'm looking forward to at E3 (and podcasted about it as well!), but basically, I think this is going to be an amazing show for RPGs. I really can't wait to see what everyone has up their sleeves.

Already, there are some really intriguing options. Nintendo will have Xenoblade Chronicles X and possibly Shin Megami Tensei X Fire Emblem. Atlus has announced Legend of Legacy, which features contributions from such names as Chrono Trigger writer Masato Kato and SaGa designer Kyoji Koizumi. And XSEED has Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel for PlayStation Vita and PlayStation 3, which is the successor to the well-regarded Trails in the Sky.

All that, and that's without even mentioning Kingdom Hearts 3, Fallout 4, Persona 5 (which won't be at E3), whatever BioWare is working on right now (presumably more Mass Effect), and the possibility of a Dragon Quest VII announcement. No more what sort of RPG you prefer, there's bound to be something at this show that you'll enjoy.

There will be a ridiculous amount to cover at this show — more than I could ever begin to write about — but I look forward to trying. And of course, there will be the fun of seeing old friends, meeting new ones, and getting an opportunity to speak with developers directly about their games.

The more I think about it, the more I think this is going to be a phenomenal E3. I'm ready to get started.

The joke's on you—I'm not even going to E3! ...But I'll be covering the event for us remotely, so it's not like I have the privilege of catching up through the magic of recaps. That said, I'm really hoping this is the E3 where our current-gen consoles consoles finally start hitting the potential promised pre-launch. Sure, we've had some great, original games on PS4 and Xbox One, but soon, we'll be seeing new releases that've had time to simmer for a bit longer. With our last console generation, 2008 stood as the year when everything came together, and I see 2015-2016 being just as great for our current one. If anything, it'll be nice to see developers cut free from the obligation to make ports for the PS3 and Xbox 360. (Apologies to folks still holding out for last gen, but this year looks like it'll be the last.)

As usual, though, I'm hoping for some serious surprises. Will The Last Guardian finally come into being, putting an end to the 10-year (!) drought of Fumito Ueda games? Will this new Star Fox finally be the proper follow-up we've been waiting for since the N64 game? Will Square-Enix at long last announce the American release of Dragon Quest VII, finally giving our side of the world a playable version of that game? Despite the prevalence of leaks and teasers, the best part of any E3 is coming away from it with news you never would have expected. Last year, it was the announcement of Grim Fandango Remastered, with the hint that a similarly revamped Day of the Tentacle would be on its way. While a new game in one of our many mega-franchises is basically an inevitability at this point, what makes E3 really worthwhile are the rare curveballs that seemingly come out of nowhere. Hopefully there'll be more than a few at this year's event.

The weather. It's going to be awesome to enjoy mild L.A. temperatures as a respite from the heat and humidity searing the East Coast right now.

Oh, and in terms of games… well, I can't really say much at the moment, because I don't know! We have a lot of appointments for unannounced games with a bunch of major publishers — all three first parties, plus a couple of third parties for good measure as well. USgamer's in that awkward spot in the gaming press pecking order where we're big enough that publishers loop us into interesting interviews, but not so big that they tip their hands in advance. So for all I know, my mystery Nintendo interview is about how Metroid is going to be the NX's flagship launch title. On the other hand, it could be something terrible, like an Amiibo-enhanced version of Urban Champion. We won't know until we get to the show and the press conferences go through their motions! It's like Christmas, if on Christmas morning you had to be prepared to conduct a 45-minute interview with whatever you unwrap.

I also hope that my conflicting desires are satisfied. I want new game ideas, new properties, not just rehashes and sequels and remakes. Buuuut I also kind of want Nintendo to announce they're picking up the 3DS Dragon Quest games for U.S. release, even though they're pretty much all remakes of old games. Yes, I am a hypocrite and probably am single-handedly destroying video games. Sorry about that. Hopefully E3 will survive regardless.

Surprises! That's what I'm looking forward to the most. I really hope there are some great new games out this year that help this generation finally, properly take off. That's not to say we haven't had some high quality games so far this gen, but most have felt like last-generation-games-plus, rather than something completely new that we've never seen before. That's what I'm really hoping for!

Of the games we already know about, I'm looking forward to seeing what should be a near-final version of Everybody's Gone to the Rapture. I saw an early demo of it at E3 last year and I really liked the premise. When I saw it again a month or two ago, it looked absolutely gorgeous - one of the most realistic-looking games I've yet seen. It's basically a post-apocalyptic, experimental storytelling game in which you travel around a deserted English village, trying to figure out what's happened. It's just so intriguing, and I can't wait to see how it plays.

Being a huge racing fan, I'm also very keen to test out the new Forza Motorsport game. That's definitely going to be at the show, and I'm looking forward to see what Turn 10 have done in the 18 months since the release of its first current-gen racer. Forza 5 was a technically excellent title, but felt - understandably - lacking a little in terms of cars and tracks. Assuming Turn 10 are using that title as a base to build on, I'm hoping that the series will be back to full strength this time around, with a meaty roster of cars and tracks to drive them on.

The other racer I'm hoping to see is Gran Turismo 7. Some outlets have announced that the game will be at the show and called Gran Turismo Sport - though we'll have to wait and see about that - but I'm definitely hoping it'll be there. The team at Polyphony have had a year and a half to put together a demo, which is surely long enough, even for that legendarily slow developer. Ultimately, I'm just interested to see exactly how the game pans out. Are Polyphony going to cut down the amount of cars and concentrate only on "premium" vehicles, or will we see those older models being ported across to this generation so the game continues to have over 1000 cars? Personally, I'm more a fan of quality, not quantity, but we'll just have to wait and see what they do - assuming the game shows up in the first place.

Flippin' games! We here at USgamer are not your IGNs, your GameSpots, or your GameInformers. We're not as big as Giantbomb in terms of community, we're not to-line Twitch streamers or YouTubers. I think we do what we do well, but to be honest, we're not the highest on publisher's lists when it comes to first looks. Even beyond that, I'm all the way over here in the DC Metro area, where I have maybe 3 or 4 developers in spitting distance. For me, events like PAX and E3 are my chance to play some brand-new games.

Certainly certainly stuff I'm expecting to see this year. Nintendo will hopefully show us The Legend of Zelda and I'd like at least a taste of Metroid. I'm thinking Ubisoft will either announce another Prince of Persia reboot or Splinter Cell: Blacklist Remastered. On the Capcom side, I get to play Street Fighter V and I'm thinking there's probably something Devil May Cry flavored. I'll see how snazzy the new Oculus is compared to the earlier versions I've tried. New Assassin's Creed! New Need for Speed! Shin Megami Tensei X Fire Emblem! Fire Emblem If maybe? Persona 5! Mass Effect! My fingers are crossed for some Dead Space! I want to hunt down Just Cause 3 on the showfloor!

There's just so much stuff and I can't even see and play all of it. That's why i love E3 and other events like it. Show me your new developers! Show me your innovation and emotion! Wow me with spectacle, publishers! I want to see it, I want to play it, I want to write about it. I'm looking forward to E3 and looking forward to sharing it with you all.
