All week long, you have voted for your favorite games of 2018. There were some surprises among the nominees lifted high, as well as some expected picks. In the end, it was a close race between three games in particular, with one barely edging out as the victor.
And the Community Pick for Game of the Year is…
God of War
Platforms: PlayStation 4
Kratos and his son Atreus hooked more than just us this year (as it also landed high on our Top 20 Games of the Year list). As per your votes, God of War won with the most votes. Most commenters were simple with their reasoning, while others just shot its name into the void (making my job of counting votes much easier). "God of War is not only my favorite game this year,it is aslo [sic] my GOTG," wrote one commenter in particular, meaning their "game of the generation."
The praise is high for Sony Santa Monica's soft-reboot of a PlayStation classic. Whether you were a diehard fan of the series in need of a refreshing take on the god-killing anti-hero, a sucker for great action-adventure games, or just liked swinging that Leviathan axe around, chances are, God of War had something for you.
The Other Games That Got More Than One Vote
The pristine platformer Celeste and the Switch-exclusive JRPG Octopath Traveler tied for second place, with the same amount of votes each. Beyond those, a wide array of games got nominated, from indies to games released way back in 2017. (It feels so long ago, right?) Below, you can find a list of all the games that nabbed more than one vote, in order of votes.
- Celeste
- Octopath Traveler
- Faeria (Released in 2017)
- Spider-Man
- Super Smash Bros. Ultimate
- Dragon Quest XI
- Into the Breach
- Red Dead Redemption 2
