US PS Store update, April 23 - Thomas Was Alone, God Mode, Resident Evil sale

There's quite a lot of variety in this week's North American PlayStation Store update, with triple-A releases, older titles joining the catalogue, a much-loved indie, sales and some stellar DLC.

There are four new PS3 Full games this week - quite the haul. Star Trek is out ahead of the new film's general release. Soul Calibur 5 makes its long overdue digital debut. Dead Island Riptide is this week's most controversial release, dividing critics and players alike. And Blazing Angels 2: Secret Missions of WWII seems to be an air combat game; that's the end of my knowledge on this matter.

On the PSN, check out Saber Interactive's God Mode. I'm pretty keen to try this myself, as Saber has a lot of talent, but it hasn't quite hit the big time, churning out an underwhelming licensed game, going largely unrecognised for its work on other studio's titles, and then making Inversion, which nobody remembered about by the time it finally released. God Mode appears to be a smaller, more light-hearted affair so let's hope we see the team shine. There's a demo, so give it a spin.

You should also check out Thomas Was Alone, which supports cross-buy with Vita, a minimalist (seriously) indie platformer which won many a heart on PC.

Exclusively for Vita, check out Draw Slasher, which used the touch screen in a cool way, and Guilty Gear XX Accent Core Plus R. Guilty Gear was what Arc System Works did before BlazBlue and it also has a huge fighter fan following.

On PSP, Black Rock Shooter: The Game has turned up - it's also available on Vita. Speaking of, Ragnarok Tactics is now Vita compatible, too.

There's one PS2 Classic as well - Fire Pro Wrestling Returns. One of the approximately seventy zillion PS2 games I did not play.

PlayStation Plus subscribers have three offers this week. There's a free copy of Soul Calibur: Broken Destiny, a PSP fighter compatible with Vita; 20% off Thomas Was Alone; and deep discounts on the Resident Evil franchise. Oh, there's a timed trial for Blazing Angels 2, as well.

That Resident Evil sale is open to everyone at slightly less thrifty prices so do check it out. There are a couple of other sales and price changes; Rock of Ages is now just $5 and well worth the entry fee.

On to DLC: you'll find content for Assassin's Creed 3; Dead Island: Riptide; Hyperdimension Neptunia Victory; LittleBigPlanet Karting; Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Storm 3; Thomas Was Alone; and Tomb Raider.
