UK game industry tax relief ‘all but confirmed,' claims culture department source

An alleged parliamentary insider within the UK's Department for Culture, Media and Sport has claimed that a tax relief package for the nation's games industry is 'all but confirmed,' and is expected to be announced publicly this week.

MCV claims a source with knowledge of the matter has revealed that MPs have already met with senior executives at British game studios to discuss the relief strategy, and that an announcement is due for Wednesday's budget speech.

Recently; culture secretary Ed Vaizey had teased that a decision on the tax issue was imminent. It followed promises to enact relief on April 1, 2013, which became delayed by debate stemming from the European Commission over fears that the scheme was unnecessary, seeing as the games sector was not headed towards what it called, "obvious market failure."
