Ubisoft "probably" had the 3DS longer than other publishers

Continuing the publisher's love affair with the 3DS, Ubisoft has hinted it had its paws on the handheld before anyone else.

"We've been working on 3DS games for a while; the fact that we have more games than everyone else probably suggests we've had it longer than anyone else," senior vice president of sales and marketing Tony Key told Gamasutra.

"We have a very good relationship with Nintendo," he had commented.

"They're a very creative company and we like to think that we are too".

Extra development time and good working relationship aside, Ubisoft is simply enamoured of the 3DS's tech.

"This piece of hardware is a breakthrough for 3D gaming in general," Key explained. "3D without the glasses in a machine that's going to sell millions of units.

"Most of our next-gen games are supporting 3D technology going forward, and this 3DS is just another example.

"This introduces millions of consumers to 3D gaming like nothing ever has before."

Ubisoft has a reputation for jumping on new technology, holding on to the top rank of third party publishers for the Wii and Kinect. Representatives for the company have called the 3DS "brilliant" for third-parties, described it as "powerful" and said the system has core and broader appeal.

Ubisoft launched a number of titles alongside the 3DS - Rayman 3D, Ghost Recon: Shadow Wars, Asphalt 3D, and Splinter Cell 3D - and will trot out Rabbids 3D, Combat of Giants: Dinosaurs 3D, Driver Renegade 3D and James Noir’s Hollywood Crimes in Nintendo's "launch window".

Thanks, Go Nintendo.
