The Division 2 creative director is either confirming a new Splinter Cell or he's being cute
Either a new Splinter Cell game was just confirmed or The Division 2's creative director is a prankster.
The Division 2 creative director Julian Gerighty has either confirmed a new Splinter Cell, or he's having a laugh. You never know with Gerighty.
While he could be joking, on Twitter he mentioned he was working with with Ubisoft directors Dan Hay (Far Cry) and Roman Campos Oriola (For Honor) on the next Splinter Cell. He then changed his header and profile image on Twitter to Splinter Cell and Sam Fisher, receptively.
Plus, he's tweeting from Lyon, France which also happens to be where The Crew studio is located. He said we was working on a cross-over with The Crew, so that's something else to add to the mix.
Whether he was serious or not (and no, we think he wasn't), surely there is a new Splinter Cell in the works. It wouldn't be out of the question considering it's been rumored and leaked (oh hai, Amazon Canada) previously.
Ubisoft's associate director of PR got "involved" rather quickly:
Plus, at E3 2017, Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot told Geoff Keighley “all the Tom Clancy games are coming along, so we are not forgetting Splinter Cell.”
Guillemot went on to add the company had “quite a lot” on its plate at the moment, and didn’t elaborate further on when or whether we can expect a new entry in the franchise.
That said, we're putting 7/2 odds on a Splinter Cell being being at least announced at E3 2019 next month. Just remember: I am terrible at betting and predictions. But everything always seems to "leak" ahead of E3 for Ubisoft, ya know? So keep an eye out. But remember, take nothing as concrete until Ubisoft itself says something.
Anyway, just always take Gerighty's tweets for what they are - fun tweets.
