Ubisoft and Bungie are raising funds to help those affected by Australia's fires
Game developers Ubisoft Australia and Bungie join the growing list of studios pledging to help fund Australian wildfire relief.
Ubisoft Australia has so far donated $30,000 to the Australian Red Cross Disaster and Recovery Relief Fund.
Taking to Twitter, Ubisoft Australia notes that while players have asked for a funding drive to be implemented in-game, the direct donation to Australia's Red Cross is the fastest route to help those affected by the fires.
"The bushfire crisis has devastated communities across the nation and the scenes of loss are heartbreaking," writes the company.
"We’ve heard the calls requesting we create in-game items to encourage donations, however this takes considerable development time and we feel immediate action is required."
Bungie has likewise announced its own charitable program to help Australian wildlife rescue organization WIRES and the NSW Rural Fire Service. Running from January 16 to mid-February, the studio will begin a t-shirt fundraising campaign with all proceeds going to the two Australian organizations.
"We are developing a limited-edition T-shirt fundraising campaign to support both Australia’s firefighting efforts and the country’s animal rescue and conservation efforts," reads a blog post. "The T-shirt, which comes with an exclusive Destiny 2 'Star Light, Star Bright' emblem redemption code with purchase, will be available for pre-order on the Bungie Store and Bungie Store EU between Thursday, January 16 and Tuesday, February 18 at 9 a.m. Pacific, ending with the weekly reset and the end of Crimson Days. The team is currently hard at work on the T-shirt design and we’ll share a preview early next week."
Last week Crytivo - the creators of The Universim - pledged to donate two months of revenue from its online store and 30 percent of Steam revenue towards rebuilding lost homes, supporting firefighters, and financing environmental clean-up efforts.
"Here at Crytivo, we may be a small organization but always work hard to make a big difference in the world," wrote company founder Alex Koshelkov. "Our hearts go out to everyone who has suffered from this disaster and to the heroes working tirelessly to help. We hope this will inspire others to take action and help in any way they can."
Based on the latest reports, Australia's wildfires have ravaged over 18 million acres of land and has resulted in the death of millions of animals.
